Warriors Celebrate Seniors in Win Over Stoneham

Over the weekend, the Warriors hosted the Stoneham Spartans for senior day 2020. Both teams came away with wins and honored their seniors for their accomplishments over the course of their time on the team. For the boys, they honored captain Jonathan D’Ambrosio, captain Andrew Roos, captain Jack Tomsyck, Aaron Canestaro, Zack Jellison, Colin Rudy, David Schurter, Cory Sample, Alex Skeldon and Alexei Petrov. The girls honored captain Elina Olmedo, captain Grace Butler, captain Shannon Driscoll, Celia Casale, Nicole Calandra and Maggie Ritchie.

The boys ran later in the morning and were challenged by unexpected heat, but they did not let that slow them down as they cruised to the win. Junior Ajay Haridasse came from behind to finish first in 17:13, becoming the third Warrior to win a varsity race this season joining D’Ambrosio and Stratton. Following a Stoneham runner was a swarm of Warriors led by senior Colin Rudy at 17:19, junior Mike Roberto 17:31, sophomore Leith Jones 17:41, senior Jonathan D’Ambrosio 17:55 and junior Thomas Dowd 18:17. The Warriors swept the second wave, won by freshman Mike Arria at 18:28, his third win of the season. Following Arria were seniors Aaron Canestaro at 18:58, Alex Skeldon at 19:08, Andrew Roos at 19:19, and Zack Jellison at 19:25. Finishing off the sweep was junior James Christie at 19:57 and senior David Schurter at 20:00.

The third wave was won by senior Alexei Petrov at 19:29, followed by sophomore Will Riley at 19:44 and freshman Ollie Polster at 19:48. Junior Brett McLellan finished under 20 minutes at 19:52. Freshman Joe Patt was next at 20:06, with sophomore Ojas Singhvi following at 20:41, then senior Jack Tomsyck at 20:55, and sophomores Matt McCoy 20:59 and David LoCoco 21:00. The final wave saw freshman Robert Brown winning with a time of 21:50. Following Brown was senior Cory Sample at 22:48, then sophomores Vinny Kaddaras at 23:21 and Marcus Conte at 23:57. Sophomore Brian Casey followed at 24:22 then freshman William Mezikofsky ran a 24:35. Freshman Brendan Campea ran a 25:37 then sophomore Ben Burdetsky at 26:52. Finishing the meet for the boys was junior Declan Carney at 26:58, freshmen Cooper Davis at 27:32 and Theo Lyle at 28:00.

The girls team came back after a tough loss to Melrose by crushing Stoneham in the earlier meet. Junior Sammy Seabury led the way running 18:32. Following a Stoneham runner was sophomore Maddie Nett at 19:51, then seniors Grace Butler at 19:58 and Elina Olmedo at 20:06. Leading the next pack of Warriors was senior Maggie Ritchie at 20:53 along with senior Nicole Calandra at 20:58, sophomore Devon Jellison at 21:05, freshmen Alexa Yianacopolus and Charlotte O’Neil at 21:06, and junior Emma Partyka at 21:27 to finish off the varsity race. In the second race, freshman Julia Welch took the win running 21:38 followed by juniors Amber Roehrich at 21:46 and Stephanie Curran at 22:57. Next up was junior Caroline Collins 23:28 then senior Celia Casale at 24:11. Junior Aiva Barnard was next at 24:30 then freshman Sophia Macaluso at 24:47. Closing out the win for the girls was freshman Grace Mackenzie at 26:39.

The Warriors not only celebrated a win on Saturday, but also recognized their seniors for all of their accomplishments. All of the work they have put in has contributed to leading the team to success in the past three seasons. After three meets the boys team stands at 3-0 while the girls are 2-1. On Saturday, the Warriors will run their final league meet of the season with the girls traveling to Burlington while the boys will host those the Burlington boys, their toughest opponent on the season. The boys will look to capture their fifth consecutive Middlesex League Freedom Division title, which would be their longest streak under Coach Pappas.
